UnBrand Nokia E51 Tim Silver

Lez UnBrand the Nokia E51 Silver by going here and downloading Nemesis

Install Nemesis and select Virtual USB Device during setup

Connect the Nokia phone and get it recognized by enabling PC Suite option on phone which appears when you plug in the USB Cable

Nemesis should recognized the phone and in Production Data Edit change the 0557636 with the 0553974 (My Case is an Italian E51 Silver brande by TIM)

zizzibaddicom_nemesis1

Here are some valid codes:
0546184: RM-244 CTR EURO1 BLACK
0553974: RM-244 CTR EURO1 SILVER
0556902: RM-244 Brand TIM BLACK
0557636: RM-244 Brand TIM SILVER
Click write and it says…. done. At this time you can close Nemesis

zizzibaddicom_nemesis2

Run now Nokia Software Updater which should detect the phone and its firmware

In my case it found the E51 and displayed:
Nokia E51 (RM-244) current firmware 200.34.36 – New firmware 300.34.56

When I have done the same, before changing the product number with Nemesis, Nokia Software Updated said the phone had the latest firmware…and it was a lie!

Flag the warning about the memory card and click next.

It will start to download the new firmware which is 81.5 megabyte

Then it will reboot the phone and said it would take 15 minutes

After a while the phone reboots again and displays Nokia Local Mode 300.34.56

Then it reboots for the last time and it is updated and unBranded!

Hi zizzibaddi, I’ve got an Italian E51 silver (TIM) too, before flashing the firmware I’d like to ask you what happens to warranty and if it’s possible to downgrade the firmware restoring the original “Production Data Edit” and running Nokia Updater.

    Thank you in advance,
    Alessandro

Hello Ale, I have not tried but what I can tell you is that the Nokia Updater, if the FW is the TIM’s one WILL NEVER UPDATE any branded phone, and Nokia confirms that! So you can only update with a pure Nokia FW and dunno if you can go back to the TIM’s one, nor if it is worth it since regarding warranty you can always say that a Nokia Repair Center did the update or that you did it yourself on line etc. Consider that Servicing a Mobile means first trying with a FW update before considering the hardware failure. Also the mobile is yours and it does not make any sense running an obsolete FW, not upgradable and with Access Point you cannot delete etc. So, if you are confident, you should upgrade the FW with the Nokia latest one. Cheers.

I totally agree with you, it doesn’t make sense at all keeping this obsolete FW with buggy calendar and many other little problems only because TIM probably wants to put its brand before “accepting” any software upgrade.

So thank you very much for your help and your quick reply!

    Ale

I changed the product code and upgraded the firmware via Nokia SW Updater and everything went good, next weekend I’ll be able to see if the Calendar-bug was fixed as well as the other problems…

    Thank you again,
    ciao! :)

Hi, I’ve tryed the above method using 0546184: RM-244 CTR EURO1 BLACK,
with my Nokia E51 (Australia) with out any luck,,,, Is there a code for Australia…..?

  10. August 12th, 2009 at 12:07 | #10

    Hello Airush,

when I have done that I was given an Italian E51 phone and it worked smoothly so unfortunately I can’t answer your question. Did you search for other firmware?

You say “with any luck” but what is happening exactly? Error messages?

    Hey Zizzibaddi,
Mate I have now tried the code 0556902: RM-244 Brand TIM BLACK. Were at least I get through to where the Nokia Software Updater recognizes the firmware as 220.34.37 and tries to upgrade the firmware to 300.34.56.
But during the download process it only reaches about 72.5Mb and then the software say’s “downloading failed”. So I select option “TRY AGIN” where it continues on to upgrade the firmware, and it restarts to download the firmware from 59.3 Mb, and continues on to the dreaded 72.5Mb mark.
I have tried this more than 4 Times with the same error. It also suggests there may be a problem with the Nokia server, so I will retry tomorrow.

Hey Airush, yes, it might be a Nokia Server issue, I suggest you to try again later, tomorrow etc.

Hi zizzibaddi and thank u for this solution.
I have a Nokia E51 Tim Silver whitch worked fine until i upgrade the firmware to 300.34.56. it became crazy, the langage is set to Italian and i i cannot change it and many others problems with pads and shortcuts .. expl : when i push button “down” it types “4″ … :(
Now i just want to unbrand it and install the latest upgrade in Nokia website. My Current problem is that Nemesis doesnt detect my phone when i connect it to my pc by usb cable (i choose PC Suite on the phone)
Have u an idea plz ..???
    thanks

Hello dinobal, thanks for your feedback.

Well.. the issue that I have now is that my E51 goes forward in time. Sometimes it decides that today is tomorrow and it changes the date.

So I will probably do another Firmware Upgrade.

Since the Nemesis is needed the first time to UnBrand the FW, I think that you should not need it any longer. Am I wrong?

I remember that the Nokia Suite said “Latest Firmware, no upgrade available” which was abviously false and the FW was the Telecom Italia one.

Once UnBranded, Nokia PC Suite started to see the phone properly and I think you should be able to update it directly with Nokia PC Suite.

Please let me know when you try and feedbacks about that, as said I have to do the same on mine.

    Cheers

Hi zizzibaddi, thanks for your answer

I prefer UnBrand my phone, i have many italians stuffs that sucks and it can’t be removed (Alice Chat, TIMail Zone ..etc)
I will try a Restore whith Nokia PC Suite maybe Nemesis can’t recognize the 300.34.56 version

I’ll talk you about the results of my temptations.

NB : Sorry for my bad english :s

  18. September 29th, 2009 at 18:28 | #18

    Hello dinobal!

Sure! But Nokia PC Suite is doing that. It is updating your FW with a pure Nokia FW rather than a Branded one. Let me know!

Hi again. Nemesis can recognize now my phone. I removed Nokia PC Suite (i had the last version and that was the cause, this version doesn’t allow Nemesis to access my phone) and worked fine. Now i’m downloading the last FW version 400.34.011 with Nokia Software Updater i hope it will resolve my problems .. i will told u

Hi there … i have now the last version 400.34.011 but my phone is still crazy :(

  22. October 1st, 2009 at 11:37 | #22

Mmmmm, thinking but no bells ringing…

Maybe something is broken on a hardware level? If it appears “4″ when you press another key, maybe the keyboard is failure? Did you try to service it in a Nokia Centre?

    Hi to all,
the “calendar bug” I mentioned before was exactly the one that now affects zizzibaddi’s phone (sometime the phone doesn’t update the date at midnight, sometime it goes forward in time). Someone on nokia official forum said it’s related to “every day” alarms (I really don’t know how to expain better, let’s say an alarm set to “ring” everyday) and/or “not week-end” alarm (from mon to wed). Someone else said it was related to old fw but if you restore old saved settings from a previous fw setup it will cause that issue that I call “calendar bug”.

I recently decided to downgrade to 200.x fw because I’m a sw developer (only on my own) and I’m sick of all that signing stuffs, in the very next days I’ll do it, hoping that everything goes in the right way :)

sorry for typos and such but I’ve a broken arm, it’s very hard (and slow) to type with only one hand!

    @zizzibaddi
Sure I did, I receive regularly your newsletter even if I don’t post very much :)

That pic is totally crazy xD

In order to try to fix your phone backup everything but settings, restore it to factory setup and put your stuff back, try also to do not set any alarm in order to check if that’s the problem. This procedure did the trick in my case… Uh, obviously be sure to have 400.x fw :)

To make precise it’s my shoulder that’s hurt but I didn’t recall how to say “dislocate” and I didn’t want to use the dictionary :) Anyway the injury happened practicing thay boxing, it’s nothing really seriuos but I’ve got to hold a bendage for a month and I’ve got to stop training for 2 months, at least :\
