Install WinXPP on Asus Eee 1000H from USB – Method 2
May 8th, 2009 I am again installing Win XPP on the second partition of my Eee Asus 1000H from a Trascend USB Drive of 4Gigabyte. The first partition already has another instance of WinXPP which I will use to create the needed devices.
Requirements:
- Eee PC 1000H os the like
- USB Drive, I have used a Trascend 4Giga but 1Giga should be enough
- A working computer to read the tutorial and prepare the USB Drive
- A Windows XPP CD or ISO file or the extracted content in a Folder
1 – On working computer. Connect the USB Drive and take not of the letter it will be given.
2 – Download USB_MultiBoot_10.zip, unzip it on a folder and run USB_MultiBoot_10.cmd, hit any key to continue, then hit H and the format tool will appear, select the USB Drive and format it. Once done, click close
3 – Hitting 0 allows you to toggle between USB Flash Drive or USB Hard Drive. You should leave it as USB Flash
4 – Hit 1 and the dialog will appear so that you can point out to your WinXPP extracted folder
5 – Hit 2 and select the USB Drive Letter properly
6 – Hit 3 and the copy will start. Answer YES to any dialog would appear, select Unattended Install when prompt. If your WinXPP is a nLited (manipulated) copy, it might ask you to enter the serial number, and some general info like the user account to be created etc
7 – Create a Folder Drivers on your USB Drive and copy there the Drivers of your 1000H.
Required drivers are:
7.1 – Graphics (VGA)
7.2 – Asus Chipset Intel
7.3 – WLAN (Wireless Lan)
7.4 – LAN Atheros (Wired Lan)
7.5 – Audio
7.6 – ACPI
7.7 – Bluetooth
7.8 – TouchPad
7.9 – SuperHybrid
8 – Once done (after several minutes), remote safely the USB Drive and stick it into your 1000H, keep on using your working computer to follow this tutorial
9 – Turn on computer Asus Eee and hit ESC to choose where to boot from, select JetFlash Trascend 4Giga, hit enter
10 – The Win XPP Setup starts, choose option 1 (Text Install), hit enter
11 – Select o create partition and format it, I did it in NTFS, not quick, confirm by pressing F
12 – Setup starts to copy files and this is very slow, it took about 50 minutes since the USB is probably using 1.1 drivers. First Reboot.
13 – Since I have another instance of WinXPP on partition 1, I did not hit ESC, so I booted from HD which shows me multiboot options. The new one is the current setup from USB, so select this one and hit enter. Setup continues from USB. Second Reboot.
14 – Desktop appears and you will be auto logged, assuming you are using a good version of manipulated and activated Windows XPP. It is time to add drivers.
The best order is to install drivers this way:
14.1 – Graphics Drivers, so the screen resolution will be 1024*600. Reboot.
14.2 – Asus Chipset Driver by executing setup.exe. Reboot.
14.3 – WLAN Drivers so you can connect to the Internet if you have WiFI
14.4 – LAN Drivers so you can connect to the Internet if you don’t have WiFi
14.5 – Audio Drivers. Reboot.
14.6 – ACPI
14.7 – Bluetooth Drivers. Log off, log back on.
14.8 – Touchpad
14.9 – SuperHybrid
15 – Proceed to configure your devices, like network cards and add the software you need
16 – If you have installed only this instance of XPP, you’re fine, if you have 2 instances and this is on the second partition, remember to edit your c:\boot.ini and rename the entries with a better name otherwise you will have 2 entries called “Windows Professional”. The best is to call them “WinXPP on C Drive” and WinXPP on D Drive”. Remember to make a backup copy of boot.ini and to remove the attribute “Read Only” otherwise you won’t be able to save it after then changes
17 – Enjoy and please comment your successfully stories here!
Thank you very much! i will try this night to install my brand new Acer Aspire One with you guide (i expect to be the same, cause its a Netbook)
You are more than welcome Yopopleo and please let me know if it works on your Acer Aspire One. I guess so since the two machines are very similar.
Have you read the other article about Booting from SD the Acronis Rescue Media?
My purpose is to be able to boot from SD the Acronis Rescue, create a backup TIB file on the SD itself of on the HDD and then being able to restore such backup file by booting in the same way.
If I will succeed in this, then there will be no need to re-install windows from SD or USD, since it is very slow, but I will re-install it from SD in minutes.
Cheers
THANX very very much.
Its a very good work
You are more than welcome Emon!

zizzibaddi muchas gracias for ur usefulll tutorial i-m going to try this method.. i´ll write about my exp on installing this window on E.thx.
Hola I-M, you more than bienvenido!
Espero tus feedbacks
zizzibaddi, i-m unable to install window after creating the bootable usb disk exactly as u mention on above method everything is fine except i-m unable to boot my pc. 1st of all i hav forgot my eee pc admin password 2nd i want a new copy of window 3rd i havn´t any exxternal dvd or cd rom.
so let me know how can i make it easy. and let me know y ESC button not functiond for me i hit it rapidly but got nothing. or which is the default button for eee pc bios setup (F2 or del). i-m wating for ur responce. thx
Hello I-M,
very good.
1) You mean BIOS Admin Password? If that is the case you need to reset the CMOS to clear the BIOS. To do that you can try:
1.1) remove battery and power adapter, press and hold power button for 10 seconds, then reinstall battery and try to turn it on
1.2) clear the CMOS by pressing the reset button with a paper clip with no battery and no power adapter. The reset button is on the bottom of the EEEPc, on the right side, on the left of the Windows Certificate. It looks like a little hole and the logo next to it looks like this >0<
1.3) somebody suggests to short the 2 copper pads that are on the right of the RAM SoDimm Module when you open the bay on the bottom of the EEEPc
Once you have you CMOS cleared, the Admin Password won’t be prompt and you have to reconfigure the BIOS with default or customized settings
2) Buy it or borrow it from a friend. Up to you
3) You don’t need any but for sure you need another working computer with Optical Drive or an ISO of Windows OS. It is proven as not possible to fix 1 computer without a working one aside
4) ESC key should work anyway. If it does not then configure the BIOS so that it will boot the OS from the USB rather than the HDD
5) To load the BIOS you have to press F2 during POST (when you switch it on and something appears on the screen)
Hope the above helps you
Cheers,

hello ZizziBaddi how u doin.. sorry for my late responce actually i was out of station. thx for ur kindly responce and i thin it´s also be helpful for other users of eee pc.
actualy i forgot my windows admin password not BIOS so it wasn´t a big deal but the actual matter was instaling the windows on ee pc so i just changed my USB Stick to 4GB Kingston Data Traveler which done a great job for me and that was really fast and i mean that faster then cd/dvd ROM. let me know y or is this eee pc compatibilty with USB devices.
thx.
To reset/discover your Windows Admin Password you should use one of the BackTrack Linux Live CD releases.
Are you really asking if the EeePC is compatible with USB devices?
The answer is then yes…
thx zizzibaddi… i-m agreed with u about usb compatibility with e pc. thx again for creatin this useful article..
well i hav little bit experiance with BT (some wifi related u know
wht i mean.) but i really don´t know how to use BT or reseting the admin pass on windows. is this metod works on all windows or just xp.
and one request if u have some time than plz write down about win admin pass resting with BT. (cruntly i-m using BT4 Prefinal with xp dual bot on my Packerd bell laptop) bu i really don´t know that i can use it for resting x admin passes. let me know how can i do it or write a seperat articale on it.
thx i-m waiting for ur responce.
1 personal question are u from espñol.
You’re more than welcome I-M, as always.
Yes I know what I you mean and I hope your WarDriving has been successful. Well I usually boot the BackTrack Live CD and then follow the on screen instructions to reset/discover the Admin password.
BackTrack does a search, finds the Windows Instances, the users and after some minutes shows the Admin Password for each user.
Cheers!
great.. thx for the help..tomorrow i ´ll write down my experiance about this method on my pc.
hy but u forgot to telling me 1 answer about español.
Oh you are again more than welcome and yes I have really forgotten to answer such a question!
Great !
Thanks Martin!
When i restarted first time after copying all file the below error came pl help what to do.
Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.
Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware.
Please check the Windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.
Hello Chandru,
well… the error you mention sounds like the drive is not able yet to load any OS.
This tutorial is related to install Windows on a second partition where on another partition you already have another Windows instance, so maybe it is not exactly the method you should go for.
Are you installing on a wiped out drive? I mean…an empty drive?
Try restart again the process and look for Drive Info. Is there only one partition named C? More partitions?
Thanks
