Download .torrent Movies with Azureus
I am sorrounded by people who ask me how to download .torrent movies with Azureus since I am getting a movie in about 20 minutes and my friends would like to do the same.
Start the download, cook something…
then have some food while watching a good movie…
So I have decided to explain how.
First you should download and install Azureus, now called Vuze, from
here
I assume you are using some kind of Micro$oft OS.. but Azureus is working very good on OS X too, if you like the Apple…
The configuration might be quite a pain but I suggest you to start with default one.
In Tools / Options / Connections you will see “Incoming TCP listen port” and a random number. Example: 51031.
The TCP Protocol has 65536 ports but up to 1024 are reserved, so you are supposed to use higher ports.
Uncommon ports might give you higher download speed, thanks to our bloody ISPs who blocks P2P traffic priority, slowing down the downloads from P2P Networks.
This is the most important thing since you won’t be able to reach higher download speed if your router is not configured properly.
So now you have to “forward the TCP port that you will use with Azureus, from the public IP address your router gets to the private IP you have manually assigned to your LAN card”.
The above involves some Network knowledge.
First you should disable the DHCP for the LAN card you use either Wireless or Wired.
Then you should assign your LAN card a private fix address, for example this might be good and very common.
Your Router’s IP Address, the private one, from inside the Network: 192.168.1.1
Your Router’s DNS: Dynamically assigned by your ISP
Your PC LAN or WLAN Card IP Address: 192.168.1.2
Your PC Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Your PC DNS, primary and secondary: the ones your ISP told you to use
Your PC Gateway: your Router’s IP address, so 192.168.1.1
So…resuming…the router or gateway is 192.168.1.1 and your PC is 192.168.1.2
You have to tell the Router that any communications, originated outside your network, so to speak, from the Internet which is outside…has to be forwarded to the port 51031 from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2.
This How-To is about downloading with Azureus, so you should now search a tutorial to learn how to forward that port for your specific router’s model.
I assume you have done that now.
Now you need a .torrent file to load on Azureus and start the download.
You search and download a .torrent from several sites, one of the best is http://thepiratebay.org/
Azureus usually sets the .torrent file to be opened automatically so you will have your movie in the download section, the application will start to download the file and now it is only a matter of time.
In Tools / Options / Transfer you should set the KB global max upload speed to (for example) 10 and the KB global max download speed to 0 (which means unlimited).
Remember to seed (distribute) the move once you downloaded to a % no less than 90% but it is recommended to seed the more you can.
