Install WinXPP on Asus Eee 1000H from USB – Method 2

May 9th, 2009 18 comments

May 8th, 2009 I am again installing Win XPP on the second partition of my Eee Asus 1000H from a Trascend USB Drive of 4Gigabyte. The first partition already has another instance of WinXPP which I will use to create the needed devices.

Requirements:
- Eee PC 1000H os the like
- USB Drive, I have used a Trascend 4Giga but 1Giga should be enough
- A working computer to read the tutorial and prepare the USB Drive
- A Windows XPP CD or ISO file or the extracted content in a Folder

1 – On working computer. Connect the USB Drive and take not of the letter it will be given.

2 – Download USB_MultiBoot_10.zip, unzip it on a folder and run USB_MultiBoot_10.cmd, hit any key to continue, then hit H and the format tool will appear, select the USB Drive and format it. Once done, click close

3 – Hitting 0 allows you to toggle between USB Flash Drive or USB Hard Drive. You should leave it as USB Flash

4 – Hit 1 and the dialog will appear so that you can point out to your WinXPP extracted folder

5 – Hit 2 and select the USB Drive Letter properly

6 – Hit 3 and the copy will start. Answer YES to any dialog would appear, select Unattended Install when prompt. If your WinXPP is a nLited (manipulated) copy, it might ask you to enter the serial number, and some general info like the user account to be created etc

7 – Create a Folder Drivers on your USB Drive and copy there the Drivers of your 1000H.
Required drivers are:

7.1 – Graphics (VGA)
7.2 – Asus Chipset Intel
7.3 – WLAN (Wireless Lan)
7.4 – LAN Atheros (Wired Lan)
7.5 – Audio
7.6 – ACPI
7.7 – Bluetooth
7.8 – TouchPad
7.9 – SuperHybrid

8 – Once done (after several minutes), remote safely the USB Drive and stick it into your 1000H, keep on using your working computer to follow this tutorial

9 – Turn on computer Asus Eee and hit ESC to choose where to boot from, select JetFlash Trascend 4Giga, hit enter

10 – The Win XPP Setup starts, choose option 1 (Text Install), hit enter

11 – Select o create partition and format it, I did it in NTFS, not quick, confirm by pressing F

12 – Setup starts to copy files and this is very slow, it took about 50 minutes since the USB is probably using 1.1 drivers. First Reboot.

13 – Since I have another instance of WinXPP on partition 1, I did not hit ESC, so I booted from HD which shows me multiboot options. The new one is the current setup from USB, so select this one and hit enter. Setup continues from USB. Second Reboot.

14 – Desktop appears and you will be auto logged, assuming you are using a good version of manipulated and activated Windows XPP. It is time to add drivers.

The best order is to install drivers this way:

14.1 – Graphics Drivers, so the screen resolution will be 1024*600. Reboot.
14.2 – Asus Chipset Driver by executing setup.exe. Reboot.
14.3 – WLAN Drivers so you can connect to the Internet if you have WiFI
14.4 – LAN Drivers so you can connect to the Internet if you don’t have WiFi
14.5 – Audio Drivers. Reboot.
14.6 – ACPI
14.7 – Bluetooth Drivers. Log off, log back on.
14.8 – Touchpad
14.9 – SuperHybrid

15 – Proceed to configure your devices, like network cards and add the software you need

16 – If you have installed only this instance of XPP, you’re fine, if you have 2 instances and this is on the second partition, remember to edit your c:\boot.ini and rename the entries with a better name otherwise you will have 2 entries called “Windows Professional”. The best is to call them “WinXPP on C Drive” and WinXPP on D Drive”. Remember to make a backup copy of boot.ini and to remove the attribute “Read Only” otherwise you won’t be able to save it after then changes

17 – Enjoy and please comment your successfully stories here!
